The Beast of Elegance – Meet 8M3
The Beast of Elegance.
Meet 8M3. It’s everything an E46 M3 ought to be – except it holds the bigger, brutal older sister engine – the S62.
The heart of this car involves a 5L V8 packing out 394HP (294KW). Matched with the linking driveline and suspension components of the E39 M5, this car is the true ‘M’ Hybrid.
Ray from HellBM Motorsport in Silverdale, Auckland undertook the daunting and tedious task of bringing these two cars together to form one phenomenal machine. And as BMW like to put it ‘The Ultimate Driving Machine’
This is the car that the M Factory Mechanics wanted to create at 2 o’clock in the morning while the bosses were away, and we can sure as hell see why. It’s the best parts of both the M3 and M5. And with 15 Months of Borrowed time, this ‘background’ project was built by the HellBM Team.
As well as the brutal 5L S62 V8, The entire front suspension system is carved from that of the E39 M5, as well as the brakes and wheels. The 6 Speed Transmission, also borrowed from the M5.
The Hard Task? Engine Management System, but with the brilliant minds of those who put together this car, it all works. The Sports Mode from the M3, Servo Tronic, DSC, This car has not be spared a few technical mishaps here and there, it ALL Works. The DME from 8M3 has also had a few upgraded tweaks so the car lives in M Track Mode, the Limiter has been removed, and Dyno Mode Activated.
Sitting on the Dyno with Gavin from High Velocity, it packed out a whopping 235RWKW.
One of very few Hardtop E46 M3 Convertibles in the country, this car is not only one of a kind in NZ, but also the world.
